Mezamashii Run Project
Well, I've been having a good time writing on HipFitFam, I think I can really grow into it! I unfortunately still don't have a huge following, but I'm preparing a giveaway for next week that should hopefully gain a few readers. Check out the page, it'll be worth your time. If it's not worth your time, you can tell me. I'll totally ignore you for chastising me maybe care a little bit.
But in some pretty exciting news, something from some of my favorite shoemakers: I recently got an email from them introducing a very cool new project called the Mezamashii Run Project. Mezamashii means "brilliant" in Japanese, and it sounds like a really cool way to get the internet world and Mizuno working together to spread the word about their awesome shoes. If you read Running Mother, you know that I've always had a love for Mizuno, so I'm allllllll about this. I've already begged them to become a project member, and I'll be pushing it on all of you for a bit in the near future. I also just think that stuff like this is so cool. The interwebs amazes my old arse in it's ability to give people new products and experiences every day. Go interwebs! Go to the link I posted, read a bit about the project, and sign up to get an invite. Even if you don't get invited, you get entered in a drawing for free shoes. Worth it!
HipFitFam tomorrow should continue Wearable Wednesday, if I can get myself on the computer for a few minutes instead of snuggling my new niece and watching all the kiddos play happily. Oh, and marathon training. That's starting again, woohoo! Stay tuned for lots of future running ailments, ramblings, bitchfests, and happy endings!

HipFitFam
I have a new post up at HipFitFam about why all families should consider joining a gym. Check it out, and stay tuned tomorrow for a lesson on why babywearing is important!
Also, I'd love it if you'd follow the new page, as this one may be moved over there shortly. I'll import old content, but I'll also leave it up here for a while. I don't think much new content will be coming through this page though, unfortunately. We all know I'm not the best at keeping up-to-date on blogging at times, the thought of doing two makes my head hurt. So seriously, check out HipFitFam and stay tuned for more of before with some fun add-ons too!

Happy birthday and happy blogday!
First off--happy birthday to my sweet five-year-old big girl today!!!
She's completely over the moon excited, and so am I! Yesterday was her
party, and it was seriously amazing. The kids got a private animal
show, where they got to pet turtles, snakes, spiders, bugs, and
bunnies. Then they paraded around the nature museum in animal costumes,
and after that we all ate tons of Jimmy John's sandwiches and Ben and
Jerry's cake. Some stuck around after to let the sugar wear down on the
outdoor nature trail, and she proclaimed it the "best party ever." We
came home, painted faces with her new kit, and paraded our two around
the neighborhood on our evening walk. I didn't get any running in AT
ALL this weekend. Not once. But I'm okay with that, because we had a
blast. Today is also the first day of her Princess Dance Camp (holy
crap that sounds sparkly), and I went on a run after I dropped her off.
She was more than a little excited--I woke up to her sitting up in the
bed with a smile and her new ballet shoes on already, hehe. Here's to
an awesome birthday and a wonderful week of dancing fun!
As for the "blogday" part, I'm introducing my new blog HipFitFam today! I decided that I kinda wanted something more than just a running blog for me, I really wanted a family-type total fitness/healthy lifestyle blog. So head on over there, read my "The Fam" page about each of us, and stay tuned for more healthy family fun!
I would post more, but it's quite the busy day! Happy day to my sweet little girl!!!!

Five Things Friday
1. I know I said I'd be doing Wearable Wednesdays and FoodDay Fridays, but I decided that I'd like to approach it differently now. I'll still do those...but on a different blog. I've decided to make a family fitness blog, and it will be debuted on Monday!!!!!!! I'm super stoked! I'll still keep writing a bit about my running endeavors here for the time being, but I may do some double-posting as well. If enough people like that blog as much, this one will just be moved over there. I'll let you know the down-low on Monday, after I send my newly-five-year-old off to Princess Dance Camp of course.
2. Omg!!!! I won a pair of Pearl Izumi trail running shoes from The Boring Runner! I've won two things in the past week (also a BondiBand from She Runs Everywhere, yay!), so I'm feeling ridiculously lucky right now (enough so that Hubby just bought me a powerball ticket). It came at a time that I was considering backing down on running for a bit, and to me this feels like karma telling me that I need to keep it up. And by golly, I always listen to karma! (Oh, and believe it or not, I don't enter every contest out there. I just follow a lot of blogs. And once I win from someone, I stop entering their contests so I can give other people a chance. I'm super nice that way.)
3. This week hasn't been to extraordinary, as far as training has gone. I've only run seven miles, three of which were on the treadmill. For National Running Day (Wednesday), I took the kids out in the jogger. It was the first time in a while since it wasn't disgustingly humid or hot outside. They've gained weight, or I've forgotten how hard pushing that beast is, because it was a beotch of a run. I tried to do burpees between my miles to make it extra tough, but I reopened the hole in my hand and nixed the idea very quickly. Bummer.
4. I'm signed up for a fun virtual race put on by my pal Toni at Running, Loving, Living. I'll be doing both the 5k and the 10k, and you should do at least one of them with me! She has a lot of fun prizes, and it's a great way to force yourself out there during the summer heat. And, seriously, a free race WITH prizes and a week to complete it?! No reason not to do this!
5. My big girl's birthday is on Monday, and I'm sooooooooo excited/freaked-the-hell-out/angry-at-time-for-going-too-fast/happy for her! Her birthday party in on Sunday at an awesome nature museum, and we're having some of our best friends from Germany (who now live in NC, small world!) over for the weekend. I think it will be such a special time! I'm so amazed that it's already been five years since holding my tiny little baby in my arms and feeling that amazing love for the first time. I've loved the ride, and I'm so excited for all the years to come. I don't see that she could possibly get more amazing, but she never ceases to amaze me. I'll post some sappy photos on the new blog (and this one too, probably) on Monday. Let the birthday celebrations commence!

Turning into an "old lady"
That's kinda what I feel like sometimes, seriously. My shoulder is sore, my shin is sore, I fall down, my kids point out to strangers allllllll of my "ouchies", it's just pitiful at times. But then I try to remind myself that it's happening because I'm not sitting my big ass on a sofa and watching tv all the time, and my children are learning that fitness is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. That usually makes me feel better.
This past weekend, I set out to run on Saturday morning. I wanted to get a decent 6-miler in, but the wealthy neighborhood next door was having a community yard sale and my cheapness got the best of me. I hit it up first because I knew I could get better stuff at 7am than at 8am. I scored some cool toys and my 6-miler turned to a 4-miler. That's fine, I'd just run again on Sunday, woohoo! So I started my run on the trail section of my favorite greenway and started thinking about my form. My friend had sent me the pics from our Memorial Day race, and I looked like I was keeling over. I know part was from my anniversary hangover, but I still needed to do something about that body form!
This goofy picture was in my head, and I began concentrating on my upper body. On trail. Which I quickly learned was a dumb idea. My brain wasn't functioning so well in the early hours, I forgot to think about my feet too, and I tripped within the first half mile. I fell, hard. I was about to land on my shoulder, but my new iPhone was attached and I'll be damned if I was going to kill it so soon. So I did what any logical person would do and I took myself out instead. My hands looks like this still:
My leg is also scratched up, all the way from calf to upper thigh. What hurt the most though was my pride. It happened in front of three people, so I shook it off the best I could while they watched. I kept running and finished without even rinsing my hand, since I didn't have my water with me. I did the four miles in a decent time and rinsed, sulked, and whimpered back at the car.
The next morning, I was determined to not be an ass. I set out for a 10-miler, which would be my first double-digit run since the marathon. I rocked it and didn't fall once, fancy that! I had a tad bit of shin pain in mile one, but it went away quickly. I knew though that it wasn't something to be ignored, it had been happening too long.
Forward to this morning--my doc appointment for my shoulder. I knew I should mention my shin too, but I was honestly so scared that he'd tell me not to run that I had second thoughts. Turns out, there is a pinched nerve in either my neck or shoulder, and I will be going to get evaluated by a Physical Therapist and/or a Chiropractor. He gave me names and referrals for both, how nice! I have some better medicine to take and a steriod prescription if it flares up badly before one of the above takes care of me. As for my shin, I gave in and told him. He's 99% sure that it's minor tendonitis in a very small tendon behind my shin bone. It's so localized that he can't see it being anything else. The PT would be able to tell me more, but the doc was completely sure that it wasn't any type of a stress fracture! So I can keep running, just carefully and slowly. Which was my plan anyway, since I'm super smart and stuff.
So there it is. I'm getting older and more hurty, but that's okay. My kids point out my "ouchie" hand and my missing toenail to strangers, but that's fine. I need to see a PT, but that's mostly for a problem I already had anyway. But I'm also the strongest I've ever felt in my life and can accomplish things that I never dreamed I could do before. And my self-esteem is the best it's ever been. I'll take some soreness for all of that!
